It takes you about 3.5hrs through the oloitoktok road with minimal truck traffic. A departure of 5:00am in the morning will get you there as early as 8:30am, which is early enough for a comprehensive game drive in the park.

How Do I get from Amboseli National Park to Nairobi?

You can opt to take a daily flight from the Wilson airport in Nairobi to save time on the road. There are early morning flights that allow you to arrive early, do a 5hr game drive and lunch before heading back to Nairobi by an afternoon flight. Although pricy, the Amboseli 1 day flight safari is the best option if you want to save time on the game drive.

Another option of getting to Amboseli is by road. Most tours are organized through road trips as it’s a cheaper option. You may be lucky and get a joining group tour but most day trips to Amboseli are organized as private tours. Your tour operator to Amboseli usually uses a safari minivan or a Landcruiser 4x4 with pop up roof top. The popping roof top allows you to stand and watch game drive easily.

A third option would be to take the public transport that operate from Nairobi Ronald Ngara street to Oloitoktok. On arrival at Oloitoktok, you will need to hire a game drive vehicle or taxi to take you inside the park for a game drive and back to town. You can then catch a late Matatu (public transport) to Nairobi arriving later in the evening. This is not only an inconvenient way due to the many Matatu change overs but can also be extremely time consuming leaving very little time for an actual game drive.
